There was a time when race results merely tell a runner’s official time and photos merely serve as souvenir of an event. These days, these two combined do much, much more than that.

Running had become the “it” sport in urban centers in the Philippines these past few years with races achieving “world-class” levels, and if I were to pick three amongst the best in the country, the list would look something like this:
See how much we love running here in the Philippines? :)
This blog post is written minutes after my Run United 21K run, even before the winners are even announced! It’s quite nice to have a netbook handy and Wi-Fi around! Anyways here’s my account fresh off the race.

Ready or not, March is just a few weeks away and with it, summer! While we still have some time before it arrives, now a good time to start planning your races (which may help you get that beach bod). Here are some of the running events lined up for March:

I’m not just making this up or saying this figuratively, really did ran with Mr. Piolo Pascual and Coach Rio dela Cruz, literally! This was during this weekend’s Timex Run 2012 which was one of my most memorable and fun races of all time. And oh, the official race results are also out.

After running a full marathon you’d expect that we’d just stay in our rooms to rest, but no way! We’re in Macau in some very cool, nice weather so rest will have to wait! Here’s where our feet took us some time after our races.
Wow, it’s the fourth quarter of the year already! It’s interesting that some of the more interesting races are held this quarter, and here are some that I think are worth joining for October to mid-November:
- Ignit10n (Saturday, October 08, 2011)
A unique “The Amazing Race” type of race for groups of four. This is for the benefit of the UP IE Club Scholarship Fund. You still have until tomorrow to register.
- Nike We Run Manila (Saturday, October 15, 2011)
The first official Nike running event in Manila with an exclusive 10K distance. It’s a Saturday afternoon run with a party afterwards. Registration is closed.
- adidas King of the Road (October 23, 2011)
The first ever regional championship of adidas King of the Road Southeast Asia. Registration is extended until October 08, 2011 in adidas Trinoma and Greenbelt 3 only.
- Adobo Run (Saturday, October 29, 2011)
The return of a Saturday Halloween night fun run! Time to bring out those costumes! Registration is now open!
- The 500 Smile Run Manila (November 06, 2011)
Operation Smile’s kick-off event for their 30th Anniversary to help generate funds for their programs throughout the country. Registration is now open!
- Run United 3 (November 13, 2011)
The final leg of the RunRio Trilogy featuring a rare 32K. Registration is open online and starts October 08, 2011 in stores.
- Rain4Africa: A Lifeline to Africa Run (November 13, 2011)*
If you’re from the southern areas of Metro Manila and don’t want to go far for a race for a cause, you may want to look at this one instead. Registration is now open!
- Men’s Health Urbanathlon (November 13, 2011)*
If you’re not contented with simply running, you may challenge yourself with the obstacles Urbanathlon is known for. Registration is until October 16, 2011.
I made this short list for those who can’t afford every race that comes their way. My first consideration is the cause that it supports, then the uniqueness of the race itself. As per November 13, it’s a headache when it comes to picking the “perfect” event. I really hate it when good races fall on the same date!
You may visit the race calendar for more race listing.
* Updates: Added races, details to be posted soon.
Yes, you read it right, Run United 3! I’ll be sharing soon the details of the last of the Runrio Trilogy, but for now have a look at these three 32K finisher’s shirts (click on the image for a larger version):
This poll is just for fun, but who knows maybe this can “help” Runrio decide which Finisher’s shirt to give us. :D
