Visiting multiple churches during Holy Week, also known as Visita Iglesia, had become a tradition of mine for the last few years and this year I had the chance to revisit some of the most beautiful and revered churches in the country. Here are the 14 churches I had visited this Lenten season.

Inspired by the trending topic #2015BestNine on Instagram, I decided to create my own nine highlights of the year 2015. It’s quite difficult to rank them in particular order so I’m listing them from the earliest to the latest in the year.
It has been part of my tradition to visit churches during the Holy Week and this year was no different—except that I’d be doing it exclusively by walking and won’t be able to cover as many as I wanted. Nevertheless, I was able to include a new one in my itinerary despite using an old route.
For many people, the Holy Week means a lot of different things—from vacation to visiting churches. While I don’t observe the holidays in the traditional manner, I still opt to keep away from merry socials. This year though I did something different from past few year’s Visita Iglesia.

2013 is one interesting but very challenging year for me. I’ve had lots of ups and downs, but looking back I can’t say that I have any regrets. And if I had to pick just 10 as highlights of my year, this list would be it. In no particular order, they are:

Like many Filipinos, I commemorated this year’s Holy Week with a visit to various churches. I realized that I wasn’t able to do this last year, so this year it’s a must that I outdo the shortcomings of the previous year.

Visita Iglesia (Spanish: church visits) is a tradition here in the Philippines of visiting seven churches on Maundy Thursday as penance. Some people expand it to 14 churches with each one representing the Stations of the Cross. For this year I decided to start including this in my Holy Week habit but unfortunately I didn’t know that it should be on a Thursday, so ended up doing it on a Saturday, with an unexpected extra two churches!
